Choosing the right product

For an emergency eye wash — dust, soap, chemical splash — sterile single-use saline pods are the safest option: open one, irrigate gently, repeat with a fresh pod. Don't reuse opened pods. For ongoing blepharitis or meibomian gland dysfunction, daily lid wipes like Ocusoft pads or a micellar lotion like Blephasol form the foundation of lid hygiene — work over weeks rather than days.

For any chemical splash or persistent eye pain or vision change after irrigation, attend A&E or call 111. Eye washes are not a substitute for clinical assessment when injury is involved.
