Choosing the right product

For dandruff, an antifungal shampoo like Nizoral used twice a week typically gets it under control within 4–6 weeks. For scaly scalp conditions — psoriasis or seborrhoeic dermatitis — coal tar (Polytar, Capasal) and salicylic-acid-based products work over weeks of consistent use. Daily shampoos can be used between treatments. Hair growth supplements work cumulatively over 3–6 months and need to be taken every day.
