Choosing the right dressing

Foam border dressings like Allevyn suit chronic wounds, leg ulcers and pressure-area protection — they manage exudate without sticking to the wound bed. Island dressings give a sterile centre with adhesive borders for post-op and acute wound cover. Hypafix tape is best used to secure a non-adhesive pad or to hold cannulas and devices in place. Apply barrier cream around frequently-dressed areas to reduce maceration.
