Choosing the right solution

For routine wound cleansing of minor cuts and grazes, sterile saline pods are convenient, sterile single-use doses. For chronic wounds, leg ulcers or wounds with surface bioburden, a surfactant-based irrigation like Prontosan helps lift debris and reduce biofilm without the harshness of older antiseptics. Saline nasal rinses serve a different purpose entirely — they suit chronic rhinitis and post-cold sinus recovery rather than skin wounds.

For deep, dirty or infected wounds, irrigation is not a substitute for clinical assessment. See a nurse or GP if a wound isn't healing in 1–2 weeks.
